What Is NATO?

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) is an intergovernmental military alliance founded in 1949. It was meant to serve as a counterweight to the soviet union and warsaw pact, to secure a western capitalist world structure. When the soviet union and warsaw pact collapsed, nato remained, even though its ‘justification’ to exist had disappeared. Since then, the alliance has expanded in both members and military apparatus.

NATO was not only founded for military, but also for economic purposes. In its founding “Strategic Concept” paper, NATO wanted the integration of its members to be “not just military, but also political, economic, and psychological”. NATO countries were expected to spread an anti-communist worldview and to promote pro-capitalist, free trade economies.

The western imperialist entity is centered around the usa and based on NATO infrastructure. NATO’s official budget is around 4.1 billion dollars. More importantly, together its members spend roughly $1.6 trillion dollars on defense a year. NATO is united and mobilised militarily, politically, and economically. They are prepared to push back any growing forces that might become a threat to their domination.

While NATO likes to describe itself as a defence alliance, it has a track record of aggression. Such as its 78-day illegal bombing campaign of yugoslavia and its involvement in the war in afghanistan. The claim that NATO works for “peace, security and freedom” can be proved false by its past and present actions. Rather, NATO is the biggest threat to world peace today.
